From the Be to the Bop The Musical Legacy of Dizzy Gillespie

The public is invited to a Video and Musical Dialogue presentation commemorating Cheraw native Dizzy Gillespie's 100th birthday.  South Carolina ETV's video From the Be to the Bop: The Musical Legacy of Dizzy Gillespie will be featured on Tuesday, October 3, 7:00pm at the Theatre on the Green in Cheraw. The free event will also include music and dialogue by SC trumpeter Mark Rapp who will share Gillespie's impact on jazz.

SC musicians Dick Goodwin, Mitch Butler, Charlton Singleton and others discuss Dizzy Gillespie and his contribution to the jazz genre in the video.  Dr. Al Fraser, author of To Be or Not to Bop: Memoirs of Dizzy Gillespie is also featured.

Dr. Fraser will be a special guest at this year's South Carolina Jazz Festival in Cheraw- October 19-22. Award winning jazz trombonist Mitch Butler and Mark Rapp will perform with other regional musicians on Saturday evening, October 21 at the Theatre on the Green during the festival weekend.
