Cheraw Featured In Southern Living

In the April issue of Southern Living, Cheraw makes a full-page appearance, the focus of the magazine's monthly "Small Towns We Love" feature.

The article spotlights Cheraw's charm factor, and notes "the historic community in the state's northeast corner is filled with antebellum buildings, antique shops, and almost-like-Mama's-cooking restaurants."

While numerous photos were taken during the photographer's visit this past January, two photos made the editor's final cut, Old St. David's Church at twilight, and the bronze statue of native son Dizzy Gillespie.

"We are ecstatic Southern Living recognized what we've always known," said Cheraw mayor Andy Ingram, who is quoted in the article. "Cheraw is a beautiful, well-maintained town, and once you visit other similar-sized towns, you realize how fortunate we are to call Cheraw home."

"This gives our town an incredible amount of exposure," according to David Sides, Director of Tourism and Community Development. "Southern Living has a number of regional editions, and this article is slated to appear to over 875,000 readers that live in the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida. This should create a lot of interest in our town, and we are anticipating an increase in inquiries from tourists and those looking to relocate."

And while the town is receiving this publicity without charge, Sides said that if the full-color page article had appeared as a paid ad, the cost would have been $91,580.00.
