Centennial Park and the 100 block of Market Street will be transformed into a Christmas Wonderland on Saturday, December 7 as the Town of Cheraw hosts its annual Cheraw ChristmasFest. This family-friendly event has been planned with the community's children and their families as the focus of this fun-filled day, complete with Breakfast with Santa, an old-fashioned carousel, horse-drawn wagon rides and a dazzling fireworks display at dusk. The full day's schedule is listed below.
During this event, the 100 block of Market Street (from Front Street to Second Street) will be closed to all vehicular traffic. Parking will be available along Second Street and in the two parking lots behind businesses in the 100 block of Market.
While Breakfast with Santa is scheduled at Fatz Café, the remainder of the festivities will be held downtown. The holiday tradition, "Whoville Meets Cheraw-ville", will be shown at the Theatre on the Green at 11:00 am. At noon, Santa will arrive at Centennial Park and many activities are planned throughout the afternoon.
"We want to promote Cheraw as a great place for an old-fashioned Christmas and the ideal place to shop, eat, and enjoy the holiday season," said Cheraw mayor Andy Ingram. "If you're looking for a day of Christmas fun, then please join us for ChristmasFest."

While professional floats will continue to be welcomed, homemade floats, complete with lighting and music, would make this year's parade even more special. With the homemade entries, a $250 prize will be awarded in each of three categories: Best Religious, Best Holiday Season, and Best Overall. Only homemade or non-professional floats will be eligible for these prizes. For the contest, a homemade float has been defined as any float not created by a professional float company. Individuals creating the floats may purchase and utilize "store bought" materials in constructing their float. To sign up your entry for this year's Christmas parade or additional details, contact volunteer parade organizer Gail Paul at 843.498.7138 or 843.253.2301.
